During the West Coast Walk for Life this weekend I had an awesome conversation with Michael, the director of the Bremerton 40 Days for Life. He’s super enthusiastic about the upcoming prolife campaign and it was great to both pray with him and bounce some ideas back and forth with him as we walked along. One of the ideas that he’s been playing with really struck me as brilliant!
In the 40 Days campaigns I’ve worked with two of the greatest challenges we’ve faced have been raising money and filling hours. Planned Parenthood often works to discourage us with their “Pledge a Picketer” campaign, which is utter hogwash. Michael proposes we counter with our own “Pledge a Pro-lifer” style campaign. Rather than pledging per person I suggested that during the 40 Days the pledge be for hours covered.
So here’s the deal. Bremerton is shooting for coverage 12 hours / day. This adds up to 480 hours. If a person where to donate $1 per hour this makes a $480 donation. In my mind it’s way more mentally challenging to donate $500 than it is to donate $1 per hour and I’ll bet I’m not alone. As a donor I imagine this will add a sense of solidarity with the folks that are filling these hours.
There is also the added advantage of encouraging folks to sign up for hours, and encourages locations to stretch beyond their set hours.
All these thoughts blew through my head and in the moment I became the first donor. I’ve committed the example above $1 per hour for Bremerton’s 40 Days. The fine details still need to be hashed out, but I’ll bet this could really catch on and add fuel to the 40 Day fire that is already burning bright across our country!
The abortion industry may have our President in their pocket, but they will never take the heart of our nation!
